Kotobuki Energy Soil

Description

Product Description

Energy Soil is a nutrient-rich aquarium soil from Kotobuki Kogei, made in Japan from natural black soil. It went on sale in Japan in early 2024, a few months after ADA stopped selling its original Aqua Soil Amazonia, and Japanese plant and shrimp keepers have been testing it since. This guide gathers what they found, with a screenshot of each source and a link to the original page.

What Energy Soil is

Kotobuki Kogei is a Japanese maker of tanks, filters and lighting. Energy Soil is its nutrient soil: Japanese natural black soil fired into grains, with added nitrogen, potassium, trace elements, and humic and fulvic acids. Since Amazonia stopped, keepers in Japan have been asking what replaces it, and Energy Soil is one answer that keeps coming up.

What's in the bag

Kotobuki says Energy Soil holds water at pH 6.0 to 6.5 with typical tap water, lowers KH, and keeps feeding roots for longer than older soils. It is sterilised and should not be rinsed.
